Damien Walker
I am a life skills educator (teacher), with a background in Secondary Food & Textiles, Child Studies and Religious Studies. I have experience in Social Enterprise, Leadership Development for Young People, Goal Setting and Values. I work with young people to ensure they have a future and are empowered to be the directors and producers of their own lives, providing the skills that enable them to be successful and transition into their ideal life after school. Key to my role and the student’s success is the planning and implementing lessons and programs to meet the needs and provide success to a variety of different students using differentiated learning.
My purpose in life is: "For all people to reach their self-actualised potential; to live an authentic, purposeful, growth filled life for themselves and others".
I achieve this by "being a positive force in the lives of others". This look like " living an open honest and authentic life; and sharing my true self", "fostering strong connections/relationships" and "teaching transferable skills to young people for real-world application (life skills)".
This Site
This site has been built to be a professional portfolio, that aims to provide a clear demonstration of my proficiency in teaching, and to allow for self-assessment and reflection on my capabilities and growth. Growth and development will be seen through my years as an early year teacher as I Journey through to become a Proficient Teacher. Hence, exploring my growing capabilities as demonstrated against the AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at the Graduate and Proficient Level (with evidence).
This site can be easily distributed, will provide me with a vital connection between theory, practice and professional growth, and will enable me to become familiar with website development, a useful skill to hold in a classroom.

I wish to acknowledge that this land on which I teach, learn and live remains home to the Kaurna People of Australia and recognise the strength and resilience of not just this land's original inhabitants but all of our First Nations'.
I also acknowledge and pay our respect to Elders Past and Living today as the Custodians of this ancient Land. I recognise the past traumas, some of which occurred not too long ago which still have an effect today and that in order to have true reconciliation it is their voices who need to be amplified and that we all have a responsibility to work towards complete unity. |
e-PORTFOLIO
I am committed to ensuring that I am providing my students with the best education I can. This means ensuring I am engaging in a reflective and collaborative practice and meeting all standards outlined for teachers in the Australian Professional Teaching Standards. Throughout my University Degree and well into my career as a teacher (I hope), I have been collecting evidence of my teaching practice, reflecting on situations and collecting evidence on student learning across my different contexts.
